A Brown Long Eared Bat has been rescued at Piltdown near Uckfield.  The finder found the bat after it was caught by a cat.

Rescuers rushed to the aid of the bat which had been left by the finder hanging from a bird feeder for three days injured.  Trevor Weeks and Chris Riddington attended on site and carefully picked the bat off the feeder and gently warmed him up before giving vital life saving fluids.

"There was clearly a wound on the chest of the bat probably from the cat as well as puncture wounds to the wings" said Trevor.

The bat was taken to Jenny Clark MBE and her Bat Hospital at Forest Row for medication and treatment.

WRAS is urging people who find any cat attacked wild animal not to just leave it but to call for help and advice in case the casualty is injured and suffering.

Some cat attacked victims are fine, but it only takes one pin prick puncture wounds for bacteria to get under the skin for an infection to set in and after a few days the animal could drop dead.
