A baby hedgehog had to be rescued on 10 August after being found stuck in a Christmas Bauble at Isfield in East Sussex.

Volunteer rescuers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) were called out by staff at the Laughing Fish Pub after discovering a baby hedgehog in distress. "The call was received at 10:30am and the caller reported finding a small hedgehog with a piece of plastic stuck on its back and clearly in distress" said Trevor Weeks MBE founder of East Sussex WRAS. » Read more

100 hedgehogs are now going to be looked after by East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) over Christmas and the New Year, with number 100 being rescued last night in Eastbourne (19th December).

This is the highest number of hedgehogs the charity has ever had to overwinter at Christmas time before. Last year the charity only had 83 in care on Christmas Day. » Read more

Christmas has come early this year for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife in East Sussex after members of the public have come to the aid of a cash strapped wildlife rescue charity.

Just over two weeks ago East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) had to launch an emergency appeal for help as the charity's funds have plummeted due to such a busy year help injured wildlife. As well as over £4,500 in donations being received since its appeal started, the charity has also launched a "Wish List" on Amazon which has led to numerous parcels full of gifts arriving at the Casualty Centre on a daily basis. » Read more

Animals from a Sussex rescue centre have been 'hogging' the limelight as they joined the beautiful Sarah-Jane Honeywell on the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre stage in Guildford this week.

CBeebies star Sarah, who is patron for East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS), invited several rescued hedgehogs along to Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre for their acting debut and to raise awareness of their plight. » Read more

BBC1 local news presenter Beverley Thompson will be opening WRAS's Christmas fair on Saturday 6th December 2008.

The fair opens at 9.30am and runs until 1pm. There will be refreshments available along with various stalls selling bric-a-brac, toys, cakes as well as a raffle, visit from Father Christmas too.
