A veterinary ambulance rushed to the aid of an injured badger found in the bottom of a disused swimming pool this morning.

Rescuers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service were called out just after 8.30am this morning to help the trapped badger. On arrival rescuers Trevor Weeks MBE and Lindsay Redfern climbed down into the empty swimming pool and found the badger trying to sleep in a quite unusual position with its back to the corner of the swimming pool and tucking its head into its belly and covering its head with its legs to hide! » Read more

The first baby garden bird of 2014 has been admitted to East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) during the night of 18th March 2014. The nestling blackbird was found in Polegate sat at the side of a road. The finder carefully picked it up out of concern it could get run over and took it home before calling WRAS for help and advice. » Read more

Three local MPs have added their voices to the growing call to support badger vaccination in the fight against bovine tuberculosis (bTB) in the East Sussex area.

During meetings last week in Westminster, members of the Sussex Badger Vaccination Project received strong endorsement of their approach from Brighton MPs, Simon Kirby (Con, Kemptown) and Caroline Lucas (Green, Pavilion), as well as Wealden MP (Con), Charles Hendry. All three gave their backing to this approach as preferable to the government's current strategy in endemic areas of badger culling. » Read more

Farmers in East Sussex may be pleased to know that they can now choose to have badgers on their land vaccinated against bovine TB following the recent establishment of the Sussex Badger Vaccination Project, after five local volunteer passed the Badger Vaccination Training Course run by the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency in Gloucestershire. » Read more


Rescuers were horrified to be called out to a hedgehog which had been rescued by local residents after being used as football by local youths in the children's playground at Victoria Gardens in Eastbourne.

Rescuer Tony Neads from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) attended on site to pick up the hedgehog after WRAS received the call. "The poor little girl was very frightened and had a number of broken and bent prickles over her body as a result of being kicked, so I rushed the hedgehog up to our Casualty Centre for further assessment" said Tony. » Read more

A fox is still smiling and well on the road to recovery after being found injured and burnt at a brick works in Bexhill, East Sussex. Staff at the IBstock Brickworks in Bexhill called out East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) after discovering the fox inside one of their chemical storage rooms. » Read more

A deer had to be rescued on the Uckfield railway line at approximately 1am this morning (Thursday 4th July 2013). The male roe deer or buck had baler twine caught round its antlers and neck, which was also attached to a piece of wood caught at the edge of the railway line about 20-30 metres away from the Hempstead lane crossing at Uckfield, in East Sussex. » Read more

A mother duck and her 11 ducklings ended up having an escort through a housing estate in Hailsham this morning (Tuesday 2nd July 2013) after being found wandering round the local roads by local residents. 5 volunteers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) attended on site to help the family get to their home safely. » Read more
