A frustrating 45 minute rescue ended in success tonight after a hedgehog became wedged in a clay drain pipe in a parking area at the end of Spring Lodge Close, Langney, Eastbourne. Rescuers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) were called out by a local resident who discovered the hedgehog. » Read more

Sussex Police called WRAS out to a very unusual owl found in the day time in the middle of Eastbourne on 29th December.

WRAS rescuer Tony Neads responded and found the owl to be a Long Eared Owl.

On Tuesday (7th October) founder Trevor Weeks was called away from a collection at Tesco's in Eastbourne to deal with a deer reported as injured and in a tributary of the River Uck at Uckfield close to the Rugby pitch. Trevor who had taken the day off work to help all day at a collection of vital funds at Tesco's in Lottbridge Drove Eastbourne had to leave and find replacement volunteers in order to help the deer and continue raising funds. » Read more

Saturday 27th September the staff from the Sovereign Harbour Office helped raise £60 for WRAS by making tea and coffee for visitors to a boat jumble sale next to their offices at Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne.

East Sussex WRAS and BDMLR have been called out to look at a large mass of Goose Barnicles washed up on Eastbourne Beach. Local newspaper the Eastbourne Herald emailed photos of the strange looking objects on the Holywell beach at Eastbourne. They were sent to Jamie Dyer BDMLR’s Scottish Co-ordinator (and former Sealife Manager) to identify. » Read more

A fox has been rescued from the side of a railway line just north of Eastbourne Railway Station. The fox, suffering from a head injury, was reported to station staff following a sighting of the poor creature lying at the side of the railway line.

A pair of swans with seven cygnets have been causes chaos of roads round Langney in Eastbourne. Sussex Police have now been called out three time and East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) have received over 100 calls of concern from local residents whilst the family of swans have gone on a walk about round the local housing estate. » Read more

Early on Friday Morning - 20th June 2008 - a pregnant fallow deer was found on the A22 Uckfield Bypass near the East Sussex National Golf Course. East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) attended onsite and Sussex Police even closed the A22 for safety during rush hour whilst the deer was rescued and loaded into one of WRAS’s veterinary ambulances. » Read more
