Volunteer rescuers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) have been working hard all day today (15 October) checking over 7 miles of streams, ponds and dykes in the Shinewater, Hampden Park area of Eastbourne after a major sewage leak.

Dedicated animal champion from East Sussex honoured for tireless work rescuing wildlife

A dedicated East Sussex animal hero who has helped rescue an estimated 15,000 wildlife casualties is to receive a special award in recognition of more than 25 years of tireless work from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (www.ifaw.org) at the House of Lords.
Unusual musical Heron rescued at Uckfield
A rather unusual but musical rescue took place this week after a heron became entangled in a wind chime. Rescuers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) were called out after a resident at Palehouse Common, Uckfield discovered the tall bird flapping around in her garden.
Dog attacked deer rushed to hospital
A dog attacked deer had to be rushed to specialist vet in Buckinghamshire last night (5 October) by volunteers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS).
At about 7.30pm last night (5 October) a Crowborough resident noticed a deer at the side of their house in Coopers Lane. WRAS rescuers were on site within the hour and had the young roe deer contained. One of the organisations veterinary ambulances from Eastbourne was dispatched to help with the deer.
Amazing fox survives swimming trip!
Just after midnight early on Sunday morning Trevor Weeks was woken by a phone call from Sovereign Harbour at Eastbourne. The harbour had been contacted by a boat entering the harbour who had found a fox floating in the sea just outside Sovereign Harbour.
Kicked Lewes Hedgehog Update
Vets have confirmed that a hedgehog found at Lewes yesterday morning has been kicked and seriously injured. The hedgehog has suffered severe trauma to its mouth and nasal cavity. The upper jaw has been fractured in three places and been pushed backwards.
Another possibly kicked Hedeghog in Lewes
Less than a week after a kicked hedgehog was rescued in the public area of Uckfield Community College, another hedgehog has been found in Lewes which has possibly been kicked too!
At 8.15am today students from Priory School in Lewes phoned East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) to report their discovery. Trevor Weeks rushed to the scene whilst the students keep the poorly hedgehog safe on a footpath next to the footpath bridge just east of Lewes Railway Station. On arrival Trevor found a hedgehog with blood coming out of his nose and left eye and swelling to his head and nose, damage to one ear as well as other swelling and bruising.
Hedgehog kicked outside Uckfield Community College
"These are the worst injuries to a hedgehog that I have seen for a long time" said Trevor Weeks founder of East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS).
On Wednesday WRAS rescuer Kathy Martyn rushed to Uckfield Community College after the caretaker found an injured hedgehog. The hedgehog was rescued and given initial treatment at Henley House Vets in Uckfield.
New home required after 2 hour rescue of boar at Kingston
A home is needed for 2 Boar rescued at Kingston near Lewes on Easter Sunday.
Pauline Grant from Sussex Horse Rescue Trust at Uckfield and Trevor Weeks and Kathy Martyn from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) spent 2 hours rescuing the two Boar from a garden at Kingston Ridge, Kingston village near Lewes, East Sussex.
It’s that fox cub time of year
WRAS carer Monica Russell has her hands full at the moment trying to hand rear 5 fox cubs. The latest one was rescued by WRAS rescuers Trevor Weeks and Kathy Martyn late last night after a kitten was found bemused sniffing round it on a drive way in Bexhill. The very small cub was less than 2 hours old and still had its umbilicus attached and some placenta too. The very small cub was placed on a heat pad an taken to WRAS carer Monica Russell where it is now being hand reared. This little cub will join 'Crinkle', 'Rocky', 'Cookie' and 'Fudge' who are a little older and came from Hampden Park and Langney.
