East Sussex WRAS has made the very difficult decision to close its retail shop.
This decision has not been taken lightly and follows a careful review of the shop’s financial and operational position, including the more recent increases in overheads. The review considered both financial information and operational insights. The Board concluded that the shop is not financially sustainable at an acceptable level of risk for WRAS.
WRAS’s priority remains the rescue, rehabilitation, care and release of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. The Board has a responsibility to protect the charity’s resources and ensure that charitable funds are used in support of WRAS’s core purpose.
We recognise that many people may feel strongly about the shop and its contribution to WRAS over the years. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported it, including staff, volunteers, donors, customers and local supporters.
The shop will now close in an orderly way on the 31st July, 2026 when the current lease ends. Remaining higher-value stock will be made available through selected online sales channels, with proceeds continuing to support WRAS’s wildlife rescue and care work.
