📞 Have you ever felt reluctant to leave us a message when our rescue line goes to answerphone?
This video shows what happened after one lady left us a message during the peak of our incredibly busy summer season.
Over recent weeks, our rescuers have been returning gull chicks to rooftops across the county. Wherever it is safe and appropriate, our priority is to reunite youngsters with their parents rather than bring them into care. This gives them the best possible chance of growing up naturally while ensuring our limited hospital space remains available for wildlife casualties that genuinely need treatment.
Some particularly adventurous chicks refuse to stay on the roof, meaning our rescuers occasionally have to return to the same location more than once!
In their natural cliffside habitat, a chick falling from a ledge might end up in the sea. In our towns and seaside communities, we do everything we reasonably can to return them to a safe location where their parents can continue caring for them.
So, when our lines are busy, please listen to our answerphone message, follow any instructions and don’t be afraid to leave us a clear message with your name, telephone number, location and details of the casualty. Our rescue coordinators listen to the messages, assess each situation and prioritise those most urgently in need of help.
