A local animal charity is urging people to check their fat ball feeders after a starling was found trapped inside a feeder in Langney, Eastbourne on Tuesday 25th June. The starling became trapped inside the feeder after recent strong winds caused the lid to break off allowing the starling to get inside. The juvenile starling was rescued by Trevor Weeks MBE of East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) who came to the bird's aid. » Read more

Volunteers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS), attended on site at Priory Road, Eastbourne and used wire cutters to free the young starling from the encasing wire. » Read more

The winter is supposed to be the quietest time of year for WRAS, but yesterday volunteer rescuers were rushed off their feet with calls to over 21 casualties. Normally the January call-out rate is averages about 5 a day. "This has been an amazingly busy day" said Trevor Weeks " it reminds me of the Boomtown Rats’ song "I Don’t like Mondays"!
