Unusual Owl found in Eastbourne Town Centre

Sussex Police called WRAS out to a very unusual owl found in the day time in the middle of Eastbourne on 29th December.

WRAS rescuer Tony Neads responded and found the owl to be a Long Eared Owl.

"According to the RSPB website they are not normally found in East Sussex" said Tony.

The bird was underweight and weak so was transported to St Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital for specialist assessment, treatment, and for help with the eventual release.

"There are thought to be between 1460-4770 pairs breeding in the UK. They are very secretive birds and nocturnal so should not have been found in the day time in the middle of Eastbourne." said Trevor.
