Badger rescued at Peacehaven

A badger has been rescued by WRAS rescuers after a territorial fight by badgers. The large male badger which weights 15kg was found curled up in the garden of a house in Peacehaven. Rescuers Trevor Weeks, Kathy Martyn and David Breden attended on site and were able to catch the badger in a side alleyway. The badger had a swelling on its head and puncture marks above his tail.

After capture the badger was taken to see veterinary surgeon Chris Hall at Henley House Vets at Uckfield, where he was sedated and given a thorough check over. The swelling on the badger's head turned out not to be anything too serious and the puncture marks were not too serious either. After being given pain relief, anti-inflamatory and antibiotic medication the badger was taken to WRAS's Casualty Care Centre and bedded down.

WRAS hopes that the badger will not need to be in care for too long and hopefully returned back to the wild in the near future.
