Rescuers rushed to Hastings yesterday afternoon after receiving a call via Bexhill & Hastings Wildlife Rescue. A duck has been spotted trapped in a floating mesh planter island in the middle of Shornden Reservoir in Alexandra Park.
East Sussex WRAS Technical Rescue Ambulance attended on site along with Senior Rescue Keith Ring, and Duty Rescuers Sandra Furner and Kelly Wilkins.
Having received a call regarding a fox with a ball stuck in it's mouth but fully mobile, we weren't sure what to expect or even if capture would be successful.
This certainly wasn't what WRAS rescuers were expecting to deal with! The vixen had got her lower jaw and canines stuck inside one of the holes from a dog treat ball and couldn't release them.
As we are getting busier and busier each year with more casualties and more phone calls coming in, it is inevitable that we are in need for more volunteers to join the team!
There are a variety of different roles available so even if you think you can’t physically chase after an injured fox or climb a ladder to put a gull chick back on the roof!
A badger was dragged, alive, along a main road between Hadlow Down and Cross in Hand, East Sussex on Saturday night after being hit by a car late at night.
The driver initially stopped, checked behind his vehicle and assumed the badger had run off. Unaware of the damage to the front of the car or that the badger was still lodged there, the driver continued driving till the car broke down in the next village. On getting out the driver was horrified to find the badger. Straight away he called Sussex Police, not knowing who else to call for help and a local patrol attended on site. The local unit then contacted East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) for help after confirming the badger was still alive.

Meta was not a person for "fuss or bother" around her death, so we are posting this simple video in her memory.
East Sussex WRAS would not exist today if it wasn't for Meta and her influence in founder Trevor Weeks's life at an early age. Meta will be remembered in our hearts for years to come as a kind and compassionate lady who loved animals, dog walks, crafts and much more.

Today WRAS attended yet another deer with antlers entangled in electric rope. This time off Nursery Lane, between Blackboys and Cross-In-Hand. The adult fallow buck had the electric rope well entangled round its antlers along with a plastic stake which had become strapped to the antlers and dragging a large quantity of electric rope with two large wooden fence posts attached.

Tuesday, East Sussex WRAS received calls about four different deer rescues. Thank you to Deer Warden's Chris and Julian for dealing with the three of the deer caught in fencing, whilst WRAS rescuers attended a fallow buck with its antlers entangled in electric rope in Buxted.
On Sunday 18th September WRAS founder Trevor Weeks MBE will be running the Bates Green Gallop at Arlington which is home to the locally famous Blue Bell Walk.
Trevor will be running to raise vital funds for East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service's Wildlife Crisis Appeal!
