A mother duck and her 11 ducklings ended up having an escort through a housing estate in Hailsham this morning (Tuesday 2nd July 2013) after being found wandering round the local roads by local residents. 5 volunteers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) attended on site to help the family get to their home safely.

13cm dart removed from duck’s neck at Lewes
Members of the public, a council ranger and volunteer rescuers spent almost an hour trying to catch a duck with a 13cm long dart through its neck at the Pells Pond, Lewes, East Sussex today (New Year's Eve).
Trevor Weeks, Tony and Claire Neads from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS), were called to the Pells Pond, Lewes about 12.30pm on New Year’s Eve. Several worried members of the public helped the volunteer rescuers using long handled catch nets round the pond. Rescuers Tony Neads wearing a dry suit climbed into the pond soon followed by WRAS rescuer Trevor Weeks and Lewes Council Ranger Chris Kemp wearing just their ordinary clothes in a desperate attempt to catch the duck.
WRAS Christmas Day Rescues
While many people were tucking into their Christmas Day dinner WRAS volunteer rescuers Trevor Weeks and Kathy Martyn were responding to a call-out by Sussex Police. The call was to a goose found wandering around South Road in Hailsham at about 12.30pm.
21 hours of rescues!
Yesterday (29 April) saw volunteer rescuers dedicate 22 hours continuously from 6.30am till 4.30am this morning undertaking rescues!
At 6.30am yesterday morning WRAS received a call about a baby badger which had fallen down an embankment wall into a garden in Hastings and could not climb back out. Trevor Weeks Rescue Co-ordinator for WRAS attended on site at about 7.30am to find a young badger very lively running round the garden franticly trying to get out. The badger promptly hid behind a shed which make capture very difficult.
