A surge in casualties is stretching a Sussex animal hospital to the limits as the busy spring and summer season begins.
Volunteers and part-time staff at East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) have been rushed off their feet since the beginning of Easter dealing with an average of 25 calls for help per day.
A mother duck and her 11 ducklings ended up having an escort through a housing estate in Hailsham this morning (Tuesday 2nd July 2013) after being found wandering round the local roads by local residents. 5 volunteers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) attended on site to help the family get to their home safely.
A group of ducklings had a narrow escape this morning after being led by their mum across the busy A22 at Eastbourne. Unfortunately the mum was run over and killed but the ducklings scatters across the road panicking. Rescuers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) rushed to the scene and spent over 2 hours catching the ducklings on the grass verge and bushes whilst the Royal wedding was taking place.
